Essay

550 B.C. after putting on your armor, you walk into a large arena, the crowd cheers you on, then you look across the arena and see your opponent just as scared as you are. Throughout time, violence has been huge, whether it was in B.C., or A.D., it has had a major role in modern day society, and influencing people to be violent, and to some people, the whole violence thing is amusing. A book that deals with how violence takes part in society, is "the Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins.
In the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, the actual Hunger Games, is basically an annual gladiator game, between teens from different districts, which are all poor. These teens, are either picked, or they volunteer to participate in the games, and while they fight to the death, the richer society watch, bet on them, and the worst part is the all find it amusing. This also happened back in 550 B.C., and they too would fight to the death, but instead of teens fighting, they had criminals, and prisoners of war to fight. While the hunger games are taking place, there are some people who instead of bidding on players, they decide to help, proving that the higher society isn't so ruthless. Recently Pediatricians found out that children are starting to get more and more violent and disobedient, why you might ask yourself, it's because children now a days are watching violent television shows.
Whether it is in literature, T.V. shows, or real life, violence is a thing that must be taken serious, and it just doesn't affect children, it affects EVERYBODY, and it's not just the thought of violence being amusing to some one, but also all of the wars we have had in the past, and how video games are made about wars, and kids talking about guns and warfare instead of talking about sports and other activities, so it's really about violence, being just down right bad.

  1. It just goes to show you how much technology has impacted the daily lives of us, and how some people can just be cruel for entertainment. It's a good, well written piece.

  3. I was only able to find one error. In the first sentence, last paragraph, you said "violence is a thing that must be taken serious" and I think that seriously should replace serious there. Other than that, excellent writing.

  4. One error. In this sentence "and the worst part is the all find it amusing". The "the" should be they. I like the this essay though. You do explain a lot of good points that are worth thinking about.
