Essay

550 B.C. after putting on your armor, you walk into a large arena, the crowd cheers you on, then you look across the arena and see your opponent just as scared as you are. Throughout time, violence has been huge, whether it was in B.C., or A.D., it has had a major role in modern day society, and influencing people to be violent, and to some people, the whole violence thing is amusing. A book that deals with how violence takes part in society, is "the Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins.
In the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, the actual Hunger Games, is basically an annual gladiator game, between teens from different districts, which are all poor. These teens, are either picked, or they volunteer to participate in the games, and while they fight to the death, the richer society watch, bet on them, and the worst part is the all find it amusing. This also happened back in 550 B.C., and they too would fight to the death, but instead of teens fighting, they had criminals, and prisoners of war to fight. While the hunger games are taking place, there are some people who instead of bidding on players, they decide to help, proving that the higher society isn't so ruthless. Recently Pediatricians found out that children are starting to get more and more violent and disobedient, why you might ask yourself, it's because children now a days are watching violent television shows.
Whether it is in literature, T.V. shows, or real life, violence is a thing that must be taken serious, and it just doesn't affect children, it affects EVERYBODY, and it's not just the thought of violence being amusing to some one, but also all of the wars we have had in the past, and how video games are made about wars, and kids talking about guns and warfare instead of talking about sports and other activities, so it's really about violence, being just down right bad.

The Pain

11:10
I can feel it inside of me, eating away at my guts, the pain is overwhelming. Others in my time also feel this type of pain, the burning sensation, eating everything inside on you, most people blame it on "The Bosses". The "Bosses" posses power to do what ever they want and get away with it, unlike the rest of us, and the "Bosses" force us to do work and tell us when and where we are free to go.

11:30
The pain is much worse; luckily I find scraps of food dropped by one of the Bosses under their desk, it weakens the pain, but only temporarily. Some of the Bosses just love to taunt us with food and drinks, forcing us to watch as they feast upon their meals like the savages they are, and once there was a worker just like me, poor fellow, his pain was serious, and he hadn't eaten in days, he had no choice but to ask one of the Bosses for some food, and, well that was the last of him.

11:40
I hear them in the corridors, the other part of the workers have been released, these types of people are better known as the spoiled ones. I proudly admit that I loved when I was a spoiled one, sadly now I'm not because it is mostly the new workers that are spoiled, some of the new workers aren't spoiled, but only few.

11:50
I am grateful that the horrid taunts of the spoiled ones have faded away down to nothing, but now the pain is excruciating , and so unbearable, it- it feels like something is-is-is piercing through my stomach, I can't go on longer. Wait! I completely forgot about the substance my packed me, I quickly search my bag and find a small carton. YES! YES! YES! I found it! I open up the carton of what appears to be thin packages, is this it, the material the others always talk about. It has to be! I place it in my mouth and a blast of minty freshness hits my mouth, now it is starting to help with the pain. Others soon see the substance that I have just placed in my mouth, and beg me to give it to them.

12:15
I am almost at the point of death, but thankfully the Bosses have decided to have mercy on us, they will be releasing us soon, so we may go to the "Food Pit", where you can eat as much as you want, but there's a catch, there food is made from garbage harvested by the community's sewer plants and dumpsters. Once in a while they brings us with not so filthy garbage to feast on, but there is another catch, you must pay for all food, but you must pay extra for the "better" food.

12: 30
My hunger is gone.

Lost at sea

Stranded in the middle of nowhere, not to mention at sea, with hypothermia hours away, things aren’t looking to swell for the six men Travis, Rodger, Steve, Ross, Joseph, and Steven, lost at sea. If sailing at sea, remember to be prepared and knowledgeable of the seemingly harmless but deadly details of the ocean.
Although you would suspect a puddle on a boat, woke up finding himself in a rather large puddle, the boat was sinking, this was not a good sign for the men onboard. Now water was pouring in, Travis and Rodger were stuck in one of the cabins, Rodger pushed Travis out of the flooded room. This was very emotional part of the story, because Rodger risked his life to save a friend from death. After everyone but made it out, the boat capsized, but luckily the five men had a very knowledgeable man who knew exactly what to do, especially when sharks and other dangerous creatures that could be literally anywhere in the water. At this point, most readers are truly shocked because these five men are truly in peril every second they are stranded out at sea. Steve advised the others to conserve their energy and absolutely NOT to drink the salt water, doing of the ignorant decision of drinking salt water in the first place, it will lead to hallucination and most times death. Reading this, no one should ever drink salt water due to its few but deadly consequences.
While stranded at sea, there are many regulations to follow, consequences may lead to death, therefore it should be safe to say, that being lost at sea is no child’s play.

Stolen Day

Even though most people would prefer science-fiction, fantasy, or mystery, everyone has probably read a short story at least once in life. Almost all short stories have a moral to them like what happens when you lie. Speaking of short stories and lying, there is one in particular, called “Stolen Day”, which talks about the consequences when you lie.
Shortly after a small lie, it’ll lead to a bigger one, and an even bigger every time. In fact that happened to the main character in “Stolen Day”. By saying he ached everywhere, when he didn’t, he got to go “home”. Instead of going home and being a “good little boy”, he went fishing. This is important to the story later on because it leads him into more trouble. The fun hasn’t ended yet, everything just builds and builds on to that seemingly little lie, because he tries to hide the guilt, and fails.
Later on his lie catches up to him, meaning he gets caught. Some people never learn, they think it’s funny to lie and get away with it, and everyone has probably dealt with one of those people. Big or small, one lie, that’s all.

A Day No Pigs Would Die Response

I think that "A Day No Pigs Would Die" had a very important message to it that we should all learn. This lesson is you can't hold onto everything forever, because every thing has to go at least once. This lesson is very important to learn, because a lot of people have problems with giving things up, these people usually end up in the show "Hoarders: Buried Alive".

Humans are Different

A young boy is playing outside, sees another group of boys and asks if he can play with them, and the others say “No, you’re too little to play this game.” This is the way modern day society is, ethnocentric, we judge each other by differences, and this just isn’t today’s society, it’s been going on ever since the beginning of mankind.
In the short story Humans Are Different, the robots got rid of humans, but not necessarily on purpose, but us humans on the other hand, we do it on purpose. From the biblical times, back in Egypt, the Egyptians had Hebrew slaves and treated them like animals . Now moving to the medieval times, the crusades were forming, Christians and Muslims fighting for religious artifacts and land, this was of course ethnocentricity at work. The most historic events of ethnocentricity, was in 1939-45, the Nazis, who were trying to get rid of all Jews and make a new race called the Aryan which is blonde hair blue eyed people, and the most ironic part of this all was, Hitler had brown hair.
Tragedy struck the hearts of all Americans on September 11, 2001, terrorist attack our nation’s capital, taking the Twin Towers with them. The reason terrorist attacked us, is because we have a different type of government, we believe in a free country, Al-Qaida on the other wants a strict, one religion society, the true meaning of the attack is, ethnocentricity. Obviously the United States didn’t take this too well, so we went over to the Middle East and tried to change their culture, a perfect example of a deadly sin and ethnocentricity.
Although many people think racism is gone after WWII, Martin Luther King Juniors “I Have a dream” speech, and multiple other historical events against racism, it still lives strong in many parts of the United States, even the world.
